10 Days Volcanoes Expedition Safari

The 10 Days Volcanoes Expedition Safari hikes the crater rim of Mount Bisoke in Rwanda, then crosses into Uganda to summit Mount Gahinga, Sabyinyo, and Muhabura, the three Virunga peaks that straddle the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DR Congo. Optional gorilla trekking in Mgahinga and golden monkey tracking through bamboo forest round out one of the most complete volcano itineraries in East Africa.

Between the summit days, culture and history fill the gaps. A visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial grounds the journey in Rwanda's powerful story, while an evening at Iby'iwacu Cultural Village brings traditional dance, archery, and storytelling to life. The Batwa Trail in Mgahinga adds an intimate encounter with Uganda's original forest keepers, sharing ancestral skills passed down through generations.

Prefer a shorter volcano fix? The 8 Days Great Virunga Hiking Adventure focuses on Uganda's three peaks without the Rwanda leg. For the full cross-border experience with primates and wildlife added in, the 16 Days Ultimate Uganda & Rwanda Fly-In Wildlife Safari goes even further.
