5 Days Murchison Falls & Budongo Safari

5 days are built around Murchison Falls, Uganda's largest national park and the dramatic place where the Nile is squeezed through a gorge just a few metres wide before crashing into the pool below. The route opens with on-foot white rhino tracking at Ziwa, the only place to see them in the wild in Uganda, then settles into the park for Big Five game drives across the northern plains and a boat cruise to the very foot of the falls.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport you are met by our concierge team and your private driver-guide, then transferred to your hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria. The evening is yours to settle in and rest ahead of the journey north.

A scenic drive north through the famous Luwero Triangle brings you to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you track white rhino on foot, the only place to see them in the wild in Uganda. Continuing into Murchison Falls National Park, you pause at the Top of the Falls, where the Nile is forced through a narrow gorge, before arriving at your lodge above the river.

A morning game drive across the northern plains seeks out lion, elephant, buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe and herds of antelope in the soft early light. In the afternoon a boat cruise carries you up the Nile to the foot of Murchison Falls, passing hippo, basking crocodiles and a wealth of waterbirds along the banks.

After breakfast you set out on a longer boat journey along the Victoria Nile and through the vast papyrus of the Nile Delta, where the river fans out before flowing into Lake Albert. It is one of the finest places in Uganda to search for the rare and prehistoric shoebill stork, amid an abundance of other wildlife and waterbirds.

An early start takes you to the Budongo Forest briefing point for chimpanzee tracking, following expert guides into one of Uganda's great mahogany forests in search of our closest cousins. Afterwards you begin the drive back towards Kampala and Entebbe, with lunch en route, arriving in time for your onward flight.
