Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Kigali, Welcome to Rwanda
On arrival at Kigali International Airport you are warmly welcomed with a personalised meet-and-greet before being transferred to your accommodation. Settle in, relax and enjoy your first evening in Rwanda's vibrant capital as you prepare for the journey ahead.
Day 2
Discover Kigali, Culture and History
After a leisurely breakfast you explore Kigali, one of Africa's cleanest and most progressive cities, with visits to local markets, cultural landmarks and a walking tour through selected neighbourhoods. You also visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an inspiring and educational site that tells the story of Rwanda's journey from tragedy to reconciliation and renewal.
Day 3
Into the Wild, Akagera National Park
After breakfast you journey east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda's premier wildlife destination and home to the Big Five. On arrival you embark on an afternoon game drive through diverse ecosystems of open savannah, woodland, lakes and wetlands, watching for elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, antelope and predators.
Day 4
Full-Day Safari in Akagera
A full day devoted to the wonders of Akagera, beginning with a morning game drive when wildlife is at its most active. Later a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema carries you past hippo, crocodile and an abundance of birdlife, with spectacular scenery and excellent photographic opportunities throughout.
Day 5
Return to Kigali
Enjoy one final morning game drive as the African bush awakens around you, then depart Akagera and return to Kigali. The remainder of the day is yours to relax, explore independently or enjoy the city's cafes, galleries and restaurants.
Day 6
Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast you travel south through Rwanda's stunning countryside towards Nyungwe Forest, pausing at the historic King's Palace Museum in Nyanza for an insight into the country's royal heritage. You continue with a visit to a local tea plantation, learning about Rwanda's renowned tea industry while enjoying sweeping views across the rolling green hills.
Day 7
Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Rise early for one of Rwanda's most exciting wildlife experiences, venturing into the ancient rainforest after a briefing in search of habituated chimpanzee troops as their calls echo through the forest. Later you enjoy the famous Nyungwe canopy walk, a suspended walkway offering breathtaking views high above the rainforest and a unique perspective of one of Africa's oldest forests.
Day 8
Colobus Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu
This morning you head back into the forest to track the impressive black-and-white colobus monkeys, often seen in large troops moving through the treetops. Afterwards you travel to the beautiful shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa's Great Lakes, where you relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, stunning lake views and fresh mountain air.
Day 9
Adventure and Relaxation on Lake Kivu
A day balancing activity and relaxation. Explore part of the renowned Congo Nile Trail by bicycle, passing picturesque villages, coffee farms and lakeside scenery, then enjoy a kayaking excursion on the calm waters of Lake Kivu for a unique perspective of Rwanda's western landscapes. The evening is yours to relax in the tranquil lakeside setting.
Day 10
Departure, Farewell to Rwanda
After breakfast you bid farewell to the shores of Lake Kivu and begin your scenic transfer back to Kigali, arriving in time for your onward international flight with unforgettable memories of Rwanda's wildlife, primates, culture and stunning landscapes.
