9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Expedition

The 9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Expedition follows the Central Circuit to Margherita Peak (5,109 m), Africa's fifth highest summit, deep in the Mountains of the Moon that straddle the Uganda and DR Congo border. The route runs through seven days of trekking: montane forest alive with colobus monkeys and the Rwenzori turaco, bamboo groves, moorland of giant lobelias and groundsels, and finally the glacier ascent to the summit before dawn.

Each day reveals a different vertical world: the Kurt Shafer Bridge junction where Mount Stanley and Mount Speke first appear, Lake Bujuku reflecting the clouds at 3,962 m, and the storied Bujongolo site where the Duke of Abruzzi's 1906 expedition made camp. Bakonjo village life at the trailhead brings the human story into the journey, and the descent via Kitandara Lakes and Fresh Field Pass offers entirely new vistas on the way back down.

For a shorter mountain adventure in Eastern Uganda, the 7 Days Mount Elgon Adventure in Uganda summits Wagagai Peak at 4,321 m. The 4 Days Uganda Walking and Camping Safari offers a lower-altitude wilderness walking experience at Murchison Falls.
